Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a therapeutic practice which can support individuals in moving towards greater health and well-being, it’s a combination of relaxing pressure on the body, acupressure points and gentle joint manipulation which promotes the free flow of Chi (energy) around the body. Shiatsu uses the philosophy and practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine as the basis for treatment, and is received fully clothed lying on a futon mattress on the floor.

Shiatsu is a Japanese word meaning "finger pressure". It uses the principle of the power of positive touch - Everybody responds to touch, it is a natural way to tap into our bodies self-healing capabilities. Shiatsu uses hand pressure and manipulative techniques to adjust the body's physical structure and its natural inner energies, to help maintain good health.

What is Chi? Chi is the primary substance and motive force of life; it flows through everything in the universe. Within our bodies the Chi flows through Meridians, (channels and pathways) harmony and balance between the Meridians is seen as being essential to health. Shiatsu works with the Chi in the body, helping the body to distribute it equally between the meridians to promote a sense of balance and wellbeing.

Chinese Medicine works with patterns of disharmony. All symptoms, physical, emotional and spiritual are part of the whole picture; Shiatsu can work with all the different levels of need, giving your body space to find its natural balance.
